Dear Friends
On behalf of the 3000 plus Korean American Pastors, and the millions of their congregational members, who make up the Korean Church Coalition (KCC) in the United States and abroad, I would like to extend our warmest greetings to you, in the name of our Lord.
KCC was formed in 2004 as a non-partisan and non-profit religious NGO to bring an end to the sufferings endured by our brothers and sisters in North Korea, as well as China and other parts of the world, through non-violent means.
On September 27, 2004, KCC held its first inaugural conference (Click to see Greetings Letter from former President George Bush ) at the LAX Hilton, which was attended by over 2000 Korean American Pastors. Miraculously, on that same date, in his keynote speech, Senator Sam Brownback announced the unanimous passage of the North Korean Human Rights Act.
Since that inaugral conference, regional churches of the KCC have been hosting prayer vigils throughout the United States, Canada, and abroad. The Los Angeles KCC Prayer conference which was held on November of 2005 at the LA Convention Center was attended by over 15,000 persons. The Seoul Prayer Vigil held on February of 2006 at the Yongnak Presbyterian Church was attended by over 20,000 persons. Both are considered to be the largest gatherings for the North Korean Human Rights cause to date. On July 17, 2008, KCC held prayers vigils at 50 major cities throughout the United States.
KCC currently has representative strongholds located in EVERY STATE and MAJOR CITY in the United States, as well as South Korea and the world.
KCC has received letters and endorsements and is coordinating efforts with America's greatest groups, leaders and lawmakers, including President Barack Obama, former President George Bush, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Chairman Howard Berman, and over 30 other lawmakers.
Since that inaugural conference, one message came through with a consistent and moral clarity, from the prayers of millions of Koreans and others in the United States and around the world: "Let the North Koreans Go Free". "FREE NORTH KOREAN REFUGEES IN CHINA".
On behalf of the estimated 300,000 North Korean Refugees residing in China, KCC is praying that the Government of China will 1) Grant Refugee Status to the North Korean Refugees residing within its' borders; 2) Allow the refugees to leave to a third country of their choice, willing and able to accept them; 3) Stop the forced repatriation back into North Korea, where five out of the six forcibly repatriated are murdered in the prison, 4) Grant to the UNHCR unfettered access to the border areas to monitor the treatment of the North Korean Refugees.
KCC thanks members of our Senate and Congress for their expedient and unanimous passage of the North Korean Human Rights Reauthorization Act of 2008. This unanimous passage sends a strong message to China and North Korea that our leaders are united and stand as one, and share the same vision as the KCC in safeguarding the fundalmental human rights of the North Korean people, whereever they may be.
KCC will continue its "Let My People Go", "FREE NORTH KOREAN REFUGEES IN CHINA" campaign internationally, until China finally provides the basic fundamental human rights to the North Korean Refugees residing within its borders.
I pray and ask you to please join us in this endeavor. Please support us by joining us in our "FREE NORTH KOREAN REFUGEES IN CHINA" campaign, as well as praying for and participating in our many events.
We at KCC will not stop praying, nor rest, until Freedom for all North Koreans Refugees is won, wherever they may be.
In His Grace,
Rev. Peter I. Sohn
President, KCC
