Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing to you as a concerned citizen for the human rights of North Koreans in China.  As many as 3,500,000 people have perished in North Korea in the past twenty years.  Another 300,000 have risked their lives to cross borders into China in search of food and protection.  To their dismay, however, the threat of rape, torture, and starvation continue to pursue them in China:  The North Koreans have no protection under Chinese law.  They are sent back to North Korea upon arrest, so they endure injustice as they face daily threats of repatriation, sex trafficking and distortion of wages.
China will host the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.  It is time China should step up to the standards set out in the UN Agreements on Human Rights and guarantee basic protection of refugees and escapees within its borders.  China is the only way out of North Korea and it must grant safe passage to North Koreans, so they can reach the asylum country of their choice.

I therefore ask you to:
 - Make the North Korean human rights issue one of your top priorities;
 - Support the Resolution in the United States Senate sponsored by Senator Sam Brownback, which calls on the People's Republic of China to honor the human rights of refugees from North Korea.

One in four Koreans living in America has a relative in North Korea, and the North Korean human rights is an issue dear to many Koreans living in America.  Together with 3,000 Korean-American pastors of the Korean Church Coalition, I sincerely thank you for your leadership on this urgent matter.
